Sterling Silver White Buffalo Turquoise Pendant~JSSWBTP2. White Buffalo Turquoise is found in only place in the world, Tonopah, Nevada. This beautiful white stone is not turquoise but rather a dolomite stone. This white and black stone was found among turquoise veins and it was assume to be turquoise. However, by definition turquoise contains copper (it is a copper aluminium phosphate), which is what gives the characteristic blue color. Presence of more iron (and some say aluminum) will shift the color towards green. White Buffalo Turquoises classification is magnesite and alumite, so it is not technically turquoise. The name derives from the Native American belief that white buffaloes are pure and rare. Lacking the defining blue and teal colors of classic turquoise, the black spider webbing and chert patterns encased in this pure white stone, made it as rare as white buffaloes. Although it is sometimes confused with Howlite, Howlite is actually a creamy white calcium borosilicate hydroxide that has black or grey veins. Native American cultures in the southwest give deep meaning to White Buffalo turquoise. They believe that a natural White Buffalo stone holds the power to bring great fortune and abundance –  spiritually, mentally and materially. Some even consider it a spiritual bridge that connects individuals to their highest self as well as the divine. Symbolically, it represents innocence, purity and strength, and is said to inspire connectivity between all living things and remind us of our potential for manifesting a fulfilling life journey. It is believed that wearing it brings protection and guidance on one’s path. The lore of White Buffalo is rich with the unbridled spirit of freedom. It is considered your own personal peacekeeper, to clear your head and soothe your spirit. 26mm x 13mm x 7mm
